Passports, Visas and Taxes

A valid passport is required for entry into Zambia and visa fees are US$50 for all tourists entering the country.

Guests should note that the visa fees are subject to change without notice and should be confirmed in advance with their booking agent.

Formerly bona fide visitors to the lodge would be issued with a visa waiver letter, which would be presented to the Immigration Authorities at the point of arrival into Zambia to exempt travellers from the visa fees. As of 26th January 2008, with immediate effect, this ruling no longer applies and visitors must pay the above visa fees upon entering the country. The lodge owners and other establishments within the travel sector are lobbying to have this ruling changed as soon as possible and will keep clients informed as to any further developments.

International and Domestic airport departure taxes are US$25.00 and US$8.00 each respectively.

Health, Vaccinations and Insurance

Health precautions for traveling in Africa may be unfamiliar to prospective guests and we recommend that you contact your local doctor prior to travel to discuss the need for any possible immunization and malaria prophylaxis. Comprehensive medical and repatriation insurance is advised.

Currency

Local currency is the Zambian Kwacha and the most acceptable foreign currency to use is the US Dollar.

General Lodge Information

Filtered water is provided in the chalets and lodge and boiled water is available at the lodge.

Electricity is provided via a generator and is supplied in the chalets through a UK standard 3-pin/13amp square socket outlet.

Kasaka offers its guest a free laundry service.

Clothing/What to bring

The atmosphere at Kasaka is informal so casual neutral coloured clothing is both practical and acceptable. During the summer months of September to November cool clothing is essential, with long loose clothing for the evenings. From May to August it can be cool at nights and early morning so warmer clothes i.e. fleeces/jackets are advised. A good pair of lightweight shoes are essential for walking safaris.

It is also advised to bring:
  • Hat, high factor sunscreen, sunglasses and insect repellent/ anti-histamine cream.
  • Photocopy of your passport (incase of loss) and copy of medical insurance.
  • Personal medication and small first aid kit.
  • Spare memory card for your camera and film for video recorders (we do not sell these at the lodge)
  • Binoculars

Internet Access

Broadband Internet connections are available on request through our VSAT system. Guests are welcome to access the Internet but a small charge of $20 is billed.

Time

Zambia is 2 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.

Seasons

Kasaka River Lodge is open during the dry season from April to November subject to the onset of rains when the lodge becomes inaccessible and activities are impaired.

December - April Rainy Season. Kasaka River Lodge is closed until the beginning of April. Hot humid, thick bush, getting more pleasant in April.
April - May Hot days and pleasant evenings. The bush is very lush but gradually begins to thin out. Great time to bird spot!
June - July Chilly in the early mornings, pleasant days, cool to cold in the evenings. The bush is thinner, therefore, better for game viewing.
August Warmer windier days, pleasant evenings, bush thinning out more, good for game viewing and fishing.
September Definitely feel spring in the air, warm days, pleasant evenings, bush starts to come alive. Great game viewing and excellent fishing.
October Hot days and nights, hot on game drives and fairly dusty, great game viewing. Excellent fishing, especially for Tiger Fish.
November Humid, hot days and nights, excellent fishing. Rain fairly likely, slight cloud cover. Very good game viewing.
